UT International
Written by Brian David Crane on February 21st, 2006
Every Friday over at the UT Intramural field, a group of (mostly) international students gets together to play soccer. From this group sprang UT International, which is now in its fifth season of existence in the Knoxville Area Soccer League (KASL). I have grown to be good friends with a number of guys on the team and, while I was working as a server, really missed playing on Friday nights with these guys more than anything else that work conflicted with.I am writing about the team now because we went up to Johnson City on Sunday and played in a very good indoor tournament. We lost our first two games 5-0 and 7-0 (these are indoor soccer scores) to the likes of King College and Virginia Intermont (both NAIA college soccer schools). After our second loss and before our third game, we made a trip over to Hooters where drank some beer, ate hot wings, and watched the U.S. play/dismantle Guatemala. Much more relaxed (as we were totally out of the tournament at that point we played our third and final game against Milligan College and tied 3-3. The tournament wasn’t nearly as successful as everyone had hoped but it was cool to spend some quality time with the team. Next tournament: MARYVILLE COLLEGE!
