The Univ. of Tenn. Programs Abroad Office is sponsoring a photo contest for those students who are studying abroad. I want to submit two photos for the contest and I need your help to decide which are the best! Check out the few I have selected below and then leave me a comment. Based on what you say, I will then submit your choice. Thanks!Category 1 (General Photo)-Iguazu 1-Iguazu 2-Brasilian Beach-Rio De Janeiro-Capoeira-Bolivia-Bolivia 2-BarilocheCategory 2 (Photo w/UT student)-Instituto-El Cristo / Rio-BoliviaVote on one from each category!UPDATE: Cyrielle has voted (via a text message) and she goes for Capoeira & El Cristo (you have to trust her French sense of style)

I like the Boliva #1 (Sol de..) and in the second group: The Instituto, with you and the other guys at the soccer game. That’s my vote!

Photography. Finally there’s something cousin Andy can weigh in on! Instead of politics. No just kidding, I kinda like the political stuff too. “I reckon I ain’t much on them thar book lernin” I have to agree with Cyrielle on the photos: Cat 1: Capoeira - That B/W photo really stood out to me last week when I first saw it. Those same shots somehow lost something when they were shown in color. Cat 2: El Cristo - I really like this picture. But I wonder if this picture is the equivalent of tourist trying to “hold up” the leaning tower of pisa in Italy? Still my vote. I watched a great movie that you’ve probably seen: Cidade de Deus (City of God) I know you knew the translation. If you haven’t seen it, it’s really an awesome story about the drug and gang situation in Rio D with this young photographer as the central character. Me and the parental units are heading to Denver tomorrow morning to see Angie. Should be fun, I need the holiday. Until later, Andy

Well, I don’t know if you can trust MY French sense of style… But I would go for the Capoeira one- trés jolie, and for El Cristo -maybe a little touristy but there’s a nice light… and a nice smile.

Well, I don’t know. I am not used to stating my opinion on things. What if I’m wrong or someone disagrees with me?? Alright, I’ll try. In category 1, I vote for Bolivia. It captures something that is quite extraordinary. The picture is almost surreal. Second, third, and fourth choices are Bariloche, Rio De Janeiro, and Iguazu respectively. I feel that Bolivia is significantly superior to the others, but any one of these four is an award winner. In category 2, I again vote for Bolivia, but only if it can be submitted with a caption of “Salt Lick in Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia.” We do all know what a salt lick is, don’t we? Otherwise, I vote for Instituto. It captures South American soccer and your personal absorption into the culture. Also, I recommend ignoring suggestions from that Missouri guy. He is still shooting black and white photos with a Kodak Brownie camera; at least that is what his sister told me, I think.

Hey- My vote is going to be different from everyone else’s for the 1st category: I like Rio. It remains the one that captured my attention first. I like Capoiera only because it is in black and white. From a composition standpoint, I think Rio, then Iguazu 1, and then Bolivia are all better. Category #2: I too like Corcovado, aka El Cristo. So there are my votes! Love and miss you. Oh yeah, and you need to authorize me on Skype so I can see when you’re on, ok? Great
