One of my last weekends at UT…
Written by Brian David Crane on May 1st, 2006
I am a bit under the weather today and that must indicate I didn’t sleep very well this past weekend. After Volapalooza on Friday night, some of the Internationals rented out the top of Longbranch Saloon on the Strip for a semi going away party. I took some of the Campus Entertainment Board folks over to Longbranch with me with hopes of celebrating the success of Volapalooza. Afterwards, we went to Downtown Grill & Brewery, then over to Julian’s new place for some left-handed foosball (he modified his own table to give himself an advantage… and then home. I went to Jessica Russell’s very nice wedding on Saturday. She is the daughter of the preacher at my family’s church - it was a big, well-organized event although I can’t understand how someone can spend hours and hours and hours for 6 months to a year planning an event that lasts 30 to 45 minutes…oh well, I guess you only (hopefully) do it once right? After the wedding, I went back up to Knoxville where the Internationals had organized a second cookout. We played some football (both the American and the International kind drank some beers, ate all the usual American barbeque food, and enjoyed a beautiful day. Afterwards, I went to the library to work on a group project before heading down to World’s Fair Park where the Global Night Commute was taking place (Knoxville News-Sentinel story here). Danny Smith, the friend who invited me down to the event, keeps mentioning that I need to see Invisible Children, the documentary about Ugandan kid soldiers which has spawned this protest and also was the basis of the Out of Africa event I went to. There is more to this night but right now is not the appropriate time to tell it.On Sunday, I went to the CPC banquet where I half-heartedly said goodbye to Issues Committee and Campus Entertainment Board. No more meetings in my future with either organization…I have enjoyed each tremendously and learned a lot about a variety of things via each committee. Afterwards, I worked on my final group project for Management 401, which is my final class at UT…lots of endings, no? Graduation isn’t for another 2 weeks but I already have those butterflies in my stomach as I ponder what the future will hold. Next post: Post-graduation plans (at this point - because they are always changing).
