  • Middle & West TN Weekend

Written by Brian David Crane on October 3rd, 2006

Went over to visit my sister Lauren in Jackson, TN this past weekend (with a one-night stop at my buddy Mark’s house in Nashville). Nashville with Mark, was - as always - a blast as we did manage to get into a fair amount of trouble (including an undeserved traffic ticket). The stop at Mark’s place, however, was just a diversion from the real purpose of the weekend: To see first-hand how my sister is doing as a Senior and (among other things) the President of her sororityZeta Tau Alpha at Union University. She invited me over to be her date to a ZTA Toga Party where I would get a chance to experience first-hand just how different her small, private, Baptist-affiliated school is from my big, state-funded “party-affiliated” alma mater of UTK. Union is very very different - one of the reasons Lauren chose it - and, thankfully, Lauren has found a place which she loves and cares deeply about as well as an organization in which she believes in and is proud to be a part of. She is a leader of some 70+ girls and has grown immensely as a person as a result. It was weird - and cool - to see her as a leader. I am proud of her; not only for who she has become but for where she is going. Plus, she can dance!P.S. I would post pictures from the party but I forgot my camera at Union…needless to say, Lauren and her toga looked much better than not only me and my toga but the vast majority of her sorority as well. What would you expect from “Da Prez” of the sorority though? ;-)
