Merry Christmas
Written by Brian David Crane on December 25th, 2006
This year, Christmas was pretty low-key around the Crane household. All of the family traditions were present: Christmas fudge, Christmas steaks, Dad shopping on Christmas Eve, Christmas Eve candlelight service at church, Christmas Eve dinner at the Georges house, and my decision to return at least ½ of the clothes I received as presents (sorry Mom!).One relatively new tradition not listed above is our knack for engaging in pretty serious discussions at Christmas dinner. Last year, we talked about what Mom & Dad would have done differently in raising my sister and I. This year, the topic was our strengths and weaknesses as individuals in the eyes of the others at the table. Always interesting to say the least. As for gifts, I didnt ask for hardly anything. Of course, there was the Christmas staple of socks and underwear (thanks Mom!). However, in all actuality, I actually mentioned that I really wanted for Christmas was not receive anything but to actually get rid of some stuff! I wanted to sell my acoustic guitar that I never learned to play, my hand-built soccer goal that was simply taking up space in the backyard, an old 17 inch monitor which Dad later laid claim to, and an e-bay purchased Jeep engine. To put it succinctly, I got just about what I asked for. I sold three out of the four items I mentioned above; items which Id previously tried to sell for over 6 months with no luck. On another note, one of my favorite short prayers was posted on the Christmas Eve church bulletin that I would like to pass along to those of you who are reading this:
Lord give me strength to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference
Merry Christmas!
