Jurassic 5 Concert
Written by Brian David Crane on August 10th, 2006
Jurassic 5 put on a great show tonight. They played just about all of their songs off of Quality In Numbers, the one disk of theirs that I have. They are an extremely talented hip hop group whose songs are so well put-together that they stand head-and-shoulders above the vast (VAST) majority of hip hop music being played on the radio today. At the end of the show, each one of them free-styled for about 15 minutes on random things (namely the word Knoxville). IMPRESSIVE. I went with a friend of mine, Danny, and we had great seats -3rd row - at the Bijou Theater. The theater holds around 650 people and I would estimate that 500 of the seats were filled. The people that filled the seats, however, are another story as J5 (as they are commonly known) apparently attracts an all-white crowd. While these guys have put together a great album filled with songs that appeal to all races of people, the only people who showed up for the concert were white. A large part of J5’s message is socially and racially-focused, it is too bad that the people who could most empathize and benefit from the music weren’t there to support it. Such a shame.Nonetheless, the show was fantastic. Without a doubt, it was one of the best concerts I have been to in a long time.
