  • Fiesta De Halloween

Written by Brian David Crane on October 31st, 2005

I have been super-slack in writing on the blog this past week because I was involved in planning a Halloween party in my house with Jose. The party went off without a (relatively-large) hitch on Saturday with about 120 people attending (a glass panel in the bathroom door was broken). Jose ran a bar in our kitchen while I managed the door and the 5 peso cover charge. The party lasted until 6:30 in the morning (and I was at the door throughout all of it). Jose and I worked well together - after 7 months of talking about doing business together we finally got something off the ground. He is a positive guy who loves business and for those two reasons I continue to believe we can make something big happen. A few pictures will be posted later although I didn’t take very many as the flow of people in and out of the house was fairly steady throughout the night. We actually had more Argentinians than I expected and fewer interchange kids even though I promoted the party through the usual mediums the interchange kids use and the party was billed as a “yanque” Halloween party. As for how the numbers played out, Jose is still working on it but it is safe to say that it wasn’t as large of a success as we had hoped (lots of people brought their own alcohol as had been the tradition in the past with parties in our house). Noone from IICANA came to the party but one girl from my old graphic design/painting class, Ma-Jo, brought 4 of her friends and several of my students from the 1 hour english/1 hour spanish class came (Laura & Gabriela). Cyrielle came to the party and, based on her lack of interest in talking to me, it is quite clear that things are over between us. As for the set-up of the fiesta, Eugenia came to my house early to help me - her friendship constantly impresses me. Thanks Eugenia! As for other news and notes:I spent Thursday with Florencia. Flor is the daughter of one of the ladies from my painting class (Sara). Sara invited me to her house so that we could carpool to an “afternoon tea” offered by another lady in our painting class, however, when I arrived Sara announced that we weren’t going because another lady (lots of ladies in this story, no?) who was going to carpool with us couldn’t come so therefore Sara didn’t want to go. Oh well, I was perfectly happy to spend the day talking with Flor who turned out to be very attractive. We didn’t hit it off, though, (as I think Sara hoped we would and the afternoon ended with her ex-boyfriend showing up at her house unexpectedly…I invited her to the Halloween party but she didn’t come (and I get the sense that that is the first and last time I will see her).La Riojana basically ended our quasi-relationship via a letter on Thursday. To make a long story short, we had so much in common but constantly fought about the smallest things. I listened to some of Jose’s advice about how to treat the situation between myself and her (i.e. give her more distance & show her you aren’t interested in her to see if she comes back to you) which backfired spectacularly. She is currently in mid-term exams week (as are all of the students) so maybe things will work themselves out next week when she has more time but I am not overly concerned about it because no matter what she is going to continue to have her hang-up about me leaving in November. Some things never change…As for my 1 & 1 English-Spanish classes, I met a new girl from the class named Laura from Santa Fe who is a bit hard to understand. More details on what is happening with her later as she is studying for exams this week as well (so I won’t be seeing or talking to her until at least Friday). And then there is Brasil - Mariana. A super-cool girl from Mina Gerais in Brasil, she is a fellow intercambio who is leaving for Bolivia to work in La Paz (the capital) at the end of the week. We went out together along with about 8 other intercambios to El Bar Brasileño on Friday night after dinner at Jan’s house and then later on to Petalo’s near La Cañada.

This page make it nice and easy to know a little bit more about what goes on in your life.
