Esta fin de semana

Classes, fiestas, beautiful weather, and mate - For my History of Argentina II class, we have to write a one page paper comparing the movie “Gatica, El Mano” - a story about a boxer from Arg. following WWII - to the history of Peron. This is due in 15 days…EASY. The pace of the classes here specifically for international students is fantastic - nice and slow with some homework mandatory and others optional. Friday night I spent talking with Jose about another business idea - the importation of laptops is looking more promising all of the time. The main problem we face is the shipping and tariff costs from the US to Argentina - whatever happened to free trade? If this is not the perfect example of a case for free trade (i.e. lower the barriers to importation and exportation and the end cost to the consumer in the country (in this case, Arg) will be lower - Jose and I have to pass along these costs in the price of our product I don’t know what is. As for shipping, to send a 40 kgs package of 8 laptops with a total value of $100 dollars will cost us $615 total via FedEx (this includes import and export duties). Outrageous, no? If you have any ideas about shipping via boat, birds, floating rafts, etc, please e-mail me or post them here (anything to get our cost down!) Afterwards, met up with Carla and two of her friends for a bit (I hadn’t seen Carla in three weeks - she was the first girl I met during my time here) and then went with Alejandra and her friend to Voodoo in Nueva Cordoba.I am still suffering from a cold, although I don’t feel it as much as I sound like I have one. On Sat., went with Alejandra to the park for a mate. She is a very nice girl - I am not sure what to make of her though - afterwards, stopped by the house to drop off my bag and let her meet Otto, Jose, and Leandro. At this point, I am being just vague enough for you to think that she is my girlfriend - she is not. JEJEJE…Went out with some of the international kids last night (sat.) to the birthday party of a kid from Mexico. First, went for dinner (at 11 at night!) with Katy, Maud, Maud’s boyfriend, Diane, Leandro and a couple others and then left for the birthday party. At the bday party, the idea was hatched to go to Carerras - this “ultra-exclusive” club in the middle of nowhere outside of Cordoba. I was curious to see why this club had the reputation of having “the best-looking people in all of Cordoba”, “fantastic”, “had to go”, etc. etc. So, I went with Lucy, Fredi, Justin, and a couple other internationals from the bday party and found this to be true:1) It is in the middle of nowhere2) To get in, you need to stand out front for at least an hour (maybe th3) 15 pesos to get in 4) The best-looking people are there…but so are the rest of us.5) You need to dress to impress and, unfortunately, I didn’t.Needless to say, I left after about an hour and spent the next hour trying to snag a taxi with two girls in the same situation as me. A long night - As for today, the sun is shining and I am going out to find a soccer game. Ciao!

Ok, here’s what you do. You’ll need three Corsicans, a story about importing a merry-go-round from Avignon, France, a moto, and a plunger. I am pretty sure you can figure it out from there.
