El Dia de la Primavera
Written by Brian David Crane on September 21st, 2005
I am writing this entry from Villa Carlos Paz where there are probably 20,000 high school and college kids celebrating the first day of spring. I brought with me some mate and sat down in the park to watch a group of “hip-hoppers” (lame title, I know) practice dancing (they were very good). The weather is beautiful here now.On another note, I just received an e-mail from my mom telling me that her and my dad are coming to visit me in a week. Surprise! We are going to meet up in Buenos Aires, travel to Cba, Mendoza, and then Santiago, Chile where they will fly back to the U.S. I am looking forward to seeing them and showing them around Arg. (a country I am starting to consider as much a home as the U.S.).On the social side of a things, I went to a choripanada with all of the women from my drawing and painting class on Monday night. I was the youngest in the group by about 25 years. The choripanada (as well as the classes) are great. I find myself enjoying more and more the activities I do where I am the only foreigner as I get a better chance to see the Arg. life and culture.Speaking of Arg. life and culture, I took a straw-pole vote in my IICANA English class. I asked my 8 students to vote and choose between Bush and Chavez (the President/Dictator of Venezuela) after watching Chavez give a 20-minute speech bashing the U.S. in the United Nations. Guess who won? Chavez 8-0…Andre and I went out last night to Madera, another bar (name? and then El Sol - we met a girl and a guy from the south of Arg. on accident in the street and ended up going with them to the bar whose name I can’t remember where we met three other girls from Arg. We sang “Soy Cordobes” before heading out to El Sol where Andre displayed his world-renowned Brasilian dancing skills…it was a fun night.
