Bad News For Isreal
Written by Brian David Crane on January 26th, 2006
Picture a situation where one country, under international pressure and protests at home, retreats and hands-over land to a neighboring group in hopes of securing peace along a border (i.e. Israel). That neighboring group, which was headed by a known terrorist and corrupt politician, has seen their aforementioned leader die and, in his place, have participated in long-awaited elections (i.e. Yasser Arafat). As the world held its breath to see how this stuggling group of people would react to their newfound taste of democracy, these people proudly marched into their polling places and once again proved that all of the negative Western assumptions about them are true. Who am I talking about? The Palestinians, of course. Why do I frame the Israel/Palestine issue this way? Because the Palestinian people have openly chosen a terrorist organization to represent them. The charter of Hamas states as much:
“Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.”"There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.”
Consider the situation:1. Hamas is an organization whose members have routinely participated in suicide bombings against Israelis and has sworn, as has Iran, to eliminate Israel.2. Israel is pressured by the West to concede various parts of Gaza and the West Bank in hopes of securing peace with the Palestinians.3. Ariel Sharon, viewed by many Palestinians as a threat because of his military background, suffers a massive stroke and is now incapacitated and Yasser Arafat, viewed by many Israelis as a threat because of his terrorist ties and outright corruption, dies. The resulting political condition would seemingly offer a chance for some type of lasting resolution coupled with fresh ideas and viewpoints.4. Rather than taking advantage of this excellent opportunity to try and craft a lasting peace with Isreal, THE PALESTINIANS ELECT A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION TO REPRESENT THEIR FLEDGING DEMOCRACY.5. Who still believes that the Palestinians and the Israelis can co-exist peacefully? Not I.
