  • Ale & Vivi

Written by Brian David Crane on February 27th, 2006

Last night, Roberto and I went over to Alejandro & Viviana’s apartment for dinner. Ale & Vivi are two Argentinians from CORDOBA who came to the US because Ale wanted to get his MBA here. I meet with Vivi usually twice a week to trade one hour of Spanish for one hour of English and, thankfully, they invited Roberto and I over to their apartment to eat “una comida bien Argentina” - good Argentinian food. We had vino tinto - malbec (Malbec red wine aceitunas (olives salsa con biscotes (little crackers w/tomato salsa niokis (an Italian pasta y ensalada de frutas y helado (fruit salad w/ice cream). We talked in Spanish the whole night, watched Les Luthiers (an Argentinian comedy group and talked all about BUSINESS. One thing I continue to be amazed of is the desire of every Argentinian I have met in the U.S. to start a business. Sitting around the table last night brainstorming over four or five different business ideas was exciting but also frustrating because neither Ale nor Roberto can do anything about their dreams until they have their papers in order. Regardless, their capacity to dream and see the benefits the U.S. can offer to someone who wants to work hard were encouraging.
