A Weekend in Paris
Written by Brian David Crane on May 14th, 2007
My last weekend in Paris (and my last weekend in Europe) really flew by. Carole, as always, was a gracious host and included me in a variety of activities with her friends including a defunct Brasilian festival in Belleville (a section of Paris) followed by a night at _____ where Prigent and I stayed out way later than was necessary (and that was only Friday night). Saturday was pretty chill with Carole and I meeting up with some friends of hers in Montemarte for brunch. Carole’s life in Paris is really nice. She has friends all over the city and sees them regularly for coffee, drinks, or a meal. There is a human connection between people in Europe (not just in France) that I feel like we are sometimes missing in the States.Saturday night found a group of us out again at a really chill “alternative lifestyle” bar where we ate like kings and danced like stars. Afterwards, Prigent and I went to Cite Universitaire for a Dutch international party that reminded me of a mix between a fraternity party (these international students live in fraternity-style housing based on their country of origin) and a lot of the international parties we had at UT. On Sunday, there was a big rugby match in the Stade de France which Prigent invited me to attend with him. Prigent really took me under his wing and included me in a variety of activites during the weekend. Following the rugby match, Carole and I went for drinks with her friends and then a nighttime walk thru Paris. I finally got to eat a döner kebab! As an aside, Carole lives on what I consider the best street in Paris, rue des Petits Carreaux. It is filled with cafes, bakeries, and lots of people at all hours of the day as it is one of the few roads in Paris that is basically closed to auto traffic. Her place, her hospitality, and her city were great. ![]()
